For the past few decades, backpacking has been the go-to travel method for people who enjoy walking and who travel on a budget. Especially in Europe there is a well-established culture of backpacking, but there is a now a newcomer to this world of minimalist travelers: the Flashpacker! Some of the travel accessories for the modern flashpacker include of course the smart phone and even a laptop computer. Technology has become such an integral aspect of life that it may be out of the question to consider leaving these devices at home even when backpacking.
High Tech Backpacking Gadgets
A smartphone and a tablet or laptop are pretty normal equipment and are unlikely to draw stares if you were to pull them out of a backpack. There are a few stranger items that you may never have considered as indispensable when going backpacking. One of the most important travel accessories for the modern flashpacker is a high quality LED headlamp. The ability to have hands free illumination makes setting up camp sites easier in the dark, as well as any other nighttime activities where a normal flashlight may be too cumbersome. Another helpful gadget is a portable power source for other gear, such as a laptop. There may not be electrical outlets in the wilderness, or even in local hostels.
Finding Your Way
Another of the common travel accessories of the modern flashpacker is the multipurpose watch. Hiking through thickly wooded areas can mean big trouble for the directionally challenged. With the help of a watch that has directional capabilities, such as a digital compass, you will not have worry about getting lost. Just make sure it is waterproof and draws energy through solar power so that you do not have to worry about the device shorting out at the worst possible moment. Although flashpacking is a relatively new concept, it is sure to gain ground with people who are unwilling to part completely from their digital lives.
